Japan: President of Tanaka Works arrested for 'lethal' toy guns
Date: 4 Dec 2008
Police have arrested Yoshimoto Tanaka, chairman of Tanaka Works, for allegedly selling and possessing toy air guns that have not been altered to prevent their use as a lethal weapon.
The Cassiopeia revolvers are, according to the police, capable of shooting metal bullets and are as lethal as real handguns. Nearly 2000 of them have been put onto the market and efforts are now under way to recover these.
Tanaka defended the products, saying they are made of plastic and denying that they could be used as real guns.
